The movie "The Help" talks about the racism the African-American people face in a day-to-day basis and shows how underappreciated the workers are despite how hard they work.
Synopsis
1960s-era Mississippi debutante sends her community into an uproar by conducting a series of probing interviews with the black servants behind some of her community's most prominent families. Skeeter (Emma Stone) has just graduated from college, and she's eager to launch her career as a writer. She decided to take a big risk by writing a book that shows the everyday struggles of maids such as Aibeleen Clark and Minny Jackson. Skeeter had troubles convincing Aibeleen to help her with the book since any material that goes against white people would be dangerous especially for an African-American maid. Aibeleen's mind quickly changed when she discover Mae Mobley's diaper hasn't been changed the night before. She then goes to talk with Skeeter and agreed to help in writing the book together with her fellow maid Minny Jackson.
The 3 women formed and unusual friendship whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women mothers, daughters, caregivers, and friends view one another. As time goes by and the situation gets worse more and more maids stepped up and approached Skeeter and tell their own stories.
Characters
Aibileen Clark (Viola Davis) is a 53 yr-old African-American Maid who works for the Leefolts. Aibileen knew that she was going to be a maid since her mother was a maid and her grandmother was a house slave. Aibileen had a son who traagically passed away. Helping with the book will enable her to find closure.

Not all of the white people in the community hate African-Americans, Celia Foote would be an example since she has never hired a maid. She asked Minny Jackson for help since she didn't know how to cook or clean, she wanted Minny to teach her, Celia was filled with joy when Minny accepted the job offer. The white people in the community don't like Celia in particular, since because she wasn't born into a rich family. She's from Sugar Ditch, Mississippi her marriage with Johnny Foote placed her among the elites. Johnny was Hilly's ex and that is why Hilly feels anger towards Celia.

Movie Analysis
This movie is fantastic, the movie's main focus are the African-American people but specifically the maids also know as "The Help", they are the women who basically take care of white children like they were their own. They also do the shop for ingredients, do all the chores, and clean the house. A woman named Skeeter was shocked to see how her friends treat their maids. One time at a gather Skeeter noticed her friend Hilly who just couldn't stay still, the reason was that she needed to use the restroom but didn't use it because Aibileen also uses the guest toilet. Skeeter then decided that she wanted to help people like Aibileen who were being treated differently. By writing a book titled "The Help".
The movie really pulls you in you feel what the actors are feeling when they are happy i feel happy, when they are sad and feel like crying i felt the same way. And not all of it was drama since the characters pulled of a joke here and there which really contrasts the heavy feelings in the movie. I felt like Skeeter did a good job but for me the protagonist has to be Aibileen, because without her bravery Skeeter could not have written the book which helped the entire African-American people in the community. I really enjoyed the bonding time the characters had, but the most memorable one has to be Aibileen and Mae Mobley. It just makes me sad that her own mother doesn't care about her since she wasn't "pretty enough" but Aibileen who is not even related to Mae Mobley in any way, she cares for Mae Mobley as she would her own child. The scene where they parted ways had me in tearing up, it was really sad that despite how much Mae Mobley pleaded for Aibileen to stay she simple couldn't.
Conclusion
It's a great movie that has catchy and astonishing parts this movie also shows the power of women. This movie gives you a taste of what happened during the 1960's. if you are looking for a movie with powerful characters this is one movie to watch.
